2nd Annual Bruhwiler Kids Surf Classic – September 19, 2015
~ A day at the beach, dedicated to all the mini hardcore Canadian surfers who brave the cold water because they love to surf!~
Press Release: Tofino, BC – Announcing the 2nd Annual Bruhwiler Kids Classic, September 19, 2015 , with the support of sponsors, friends, and volunteers. The FREE, fun, and competitive event showcases the youngest Canadian surfers who brave the cold waves for their love of surfing. They are committed to fun times and learning how to shred harder. Some of them just want to be in the water with their friends. Many of them love to compete and thrive from the excitement of a day at the beach with friends, spectators, sponsors and their families! For ages 0-18.
The Beach Day will run as a one day event in Tofino, using a classic heat/judging panel format for the competitive divisions and a non judged ‘expression session’ event for the kids who are not interested in competing but still want to be part of the fun. Divisions include Open Expression Session (everyone wins!), 12 and Under Division, and a 18 and Under Division. It’s all about the kids and celebrating surfing in our community and in Canada.
With preregistration now available online at www.bruhwilerkidsclassic.com, equipment will be offered to kids who don’t have their own. Preregistration is mandatory and limited.
The location of the event will be posted on the website, the day prior to the contest or the morning of. We will start at 9 am and wrap up by 3pm.
A few fun things are happening prior to the beach event this year! With a Poster Art Exhibition open to all kids, art is displayed on the webpage, facebook event page and one artists’ work will be randomly drawn for the poster art July 1! In the week prior to the beach day, we will be showcasing our young Canadian talent on the big screen in Tofino (location and date TBA). Collection of kids surf film will be happening now until September 1, with local filmakers capturing the kids around the beaches, at surf club, etc. Video submissions will be accepted via USB. Camcorder, iPhone or Go Pro video all works!

With some of the kids already involved, we’ve come up with some great games and beach activities and invite you to have your company organize, facilitate and present some of these games. If you would like ideas, let us know, or we can give you our list. If you have a great idea of your own, that can work also. The MC for the event will have the kids presenting the different games, contest divisions, and event sponsors.

-raffle prizes for draws at beach – prizes for parents are welcome too! We need to celebrate the the hard work of the parents who take their kids to the beach and surfing!

Hi!!
This surf contest is dedicated to all the little shredders in our families, Tofino, and across Canada and the Pacific Northwest. They are taking over the lineup like weeds (cute ones) and love any opportunities to surf with their friends, hang at the beach with their families and compete in contests! There is never enough for the kids to do, and its time to give them an event all to themselves and celebrate how amazing and hardcore all these little surfers really are.
Surfing and the ocean is, and always has been, such an important and integral part of our family. We want to share that love of the water and outdoor lifestyle with the kids. We want to encourage them and stoke them to also keep developing a love and appreciation for the ocean.
The Bruhwiler Kids Surf Classic will be held every year in September. We would love to have all the local kids join us, as well as kids from all over the island, and maybe even beyond. The day at the beach will be completely about the kids, with both competitive and non-competitive categories. Not only do we want to support those kids that have already developed a love of surfing, but we want to appeal to the kids that have never been on a board before. We will be offering free entries to all the kids and will supply some equipment for kids who don’t have their own, free of charge. We want kids in ocean communities to get off the couch and their faces away from screens, and experience what the ocean has to offer.

To make this great day even better, we are seeking sponsorship from companies (monetary and/or product) to use in prize packages, or to give to each child that registers. If this is something your company would be interested in being a part of, please let us know. We are also inviting companies to help me make this day really fun for the kids by helping us create a ‘beach festival’ feel.
