-About Zero Waste and Impact Reduction-
We are super stoked this year to have the Best Western Tin Wis Resort as our main venue for the 2017 Championships!

All weekend an hourly shuttle to the beach (with 2 daily board deliveries – am and pm) will run from town to the Tin Wis and out to the beaches and back. We encourage everyone to Join us for amazing room rates at the Tin Wis Resort and have the Tin Wis be the hub for this years contest weekend.

-Zero Waste Initiatives-
With everyone’s help including all the competitors, sponsors, Tourism Tofino, the District of Tofino and Surfrider Pacific Rim (public forum) we had fun and success creating a zero waste event in 2016. All beverages were served on tap, left overs were composted and zero disposable products were used throughout the weekend. Everyone was given a cup to use over the weekend to fill with water, beer and the amazing WOLF in the FOG chowder served on the beach. The cups made great molds for beach sand castles too! Bring your cup back this year for a few free beers!
SurfRider set up a recycling wash and sorting station on the beach and provided eduction as well as a ‘bring trash, take it away with you’ as we provided no garbage cans on the beaches or evening events.
The event created zero waste, kept the beaches clean, provided education and opportunity for practicing reuse action and competitors took away cash and functional prizes from all the supporting businesses and sponsors.
This year, in addition to these practices, all evening events will held at the Best Western Tin Wis Resort with direct shuttles offered as an alternative to driving to the beach and reducing transportation needs.
Also new this year is BYOT! Bring your own t-shirt. All contest t-shirts will be printed on repurposed teeshirts. We are asking everyone to support your local thrift store or dig through your own wardrobe and bring your own rad t-shirt to the event which will be screen printed by hand in Tofino over the weekend.
BYOT Details
*only light colored tees will be printed on. The ink will be black.
*safety pin a name tag on the left teeshirt sleeve
*bring your teeshirt to the registration event!

A focus on family-style gatherings, communal dining and share plates, encourages guests to engage with their food.
